Life rarely goes the way we think.
It’s one of the most cliche sayings, but it is one of the most true. And for me personally, it’s what I’m feeling most.
I launched this blog right before preparations for my university finals. Great timing, I know, but I thought to myself “I only have two classes right now, how hard can it be?”
Answer: very hard.
This is my last semester of earning my Bachelors degree, which means I’m in my capstone course, which also means that I had two very big project due dates approaching. Projects that would take hours upon hours of each day. What were they? Writing a book and presenting my process about writing the book. Easy, right? And on top of this, in my other class I was writing an entire stage play! Now, don’t get me wrong, I LOVE writing (that’s why it’s my degree), but I got sucked into each project wholeheartedly and may have forgotten about a few other projects of mine that should’ve had some of my time.
Now that my classes are over and I sit in my half-packed room waiting for commencement this weekend, I realize that the plan I had written down got thrown out the window; but would I change that if given the chance? No.
In my family we have a saying to use when things go off of plan in the most unexpected and/or inconvenient way. We call it “Schwartzkopf Luck”. Why? Because it’s just our luck. My family is used to weird things happening, to things going haywire. Heck, my entire freshman year at this university was just one thing after another that no one could have predicted! But here’s the thing with my family, and it’s one of the traits I admire most: we persevere. There is always a solution to the screwed-up plan. Always a way to “go with the flow”. And because of this, I don’t mind change- it can keep things interesting, to say the least.
Yet all these realizations have reminded me of the possibilities in change.
It’s only when big changes happen that we seem to care much, but little things change in our life every day: from the weather, to the outfits you wear; to even the traffic on the road! And when we make little changes, they can have big impacts on our lives. This blog may seem like it’ll cause a small change in my life, but it could be a big change. The projects I worked on seemed like a huge change, but they could be small. Who knows? The most important thing is that I was enjoying what I was doing. I had so much fun in my last few weeks of school.
We should live knowing that things will change, and that we will cause some of that change. Some things will go the way we plan, and others won’t. That’s just life! But the most important thing is how we respond to it.
Remember that change brings uncertainty, but it also brings possibility.
Until next time! Safe soaring!
